Island of Books

Overview

At Island of Books, we take care to accurately describe the condition of all books we sell, whether new or second-hand. This policy explains when you are eligible for a return or refund and how the process works.


Eligibility for Returns and Refunds

New Books

You are eligible for a refund if a new book arrives with any damage.

Second-Hand Books

We sell second-hand books using condition ratings. You are eligible for a refund only if the book arrives damaged beyond our stated “GOOD” condition rating.

Please note:

  • Minor wear consistent with the listed condition of a second-hand book is not considered damage.

  • We do not offer refunds based on personal preference or expectations that differ from the condition description provided.


Timeframes

  • Reporting an issue:
    You must notify us of any damage within 30 days of the expected delivery date.

  • Returning the item:
    Once we confirm that a return is approved, the item must be returned to us within 14 days of receiving our return confirmation.

Returns requested outside of these timeframes may not be accepted.


Return Process

  1. Contact us within the required timeframe with:

    • Your order number

    • A description of the issue

    • Clear photographs showing the damage

  2. We will review your request and confirm whether the return is approved.

  3. Once approved, you must return the item to us within 14 days.


Return Shipping

  • Customers are responsible for the cost of returning items.

  • You may use any carrier of your choice to return the item.

  • We recommend using a tracked service, as Island of Books is not responsible for items lost in return transit.


Refunds

  • Refunds will be issued only after the returned item has been received and inspected.

  • Refunds will be made to the original payment method used at checkout.

  • Original shipping costs are non-refundable unless required by law.


Non-Delivery Claims

We dispatch our orders using Royal Mail.

If you believe your order has not been delivered:

  • You must notify us within 30 days of the expected delivery date.

  • Before any refund is issued, customers will be referred to Royal Mail’s delivery confirmation and investigation process.

  • Refunds for non-delivery will only be considered once Royal Mail has confirmed the item as lost.


Exclusions

We do not accept returns or issue refunds for:

  • Damage reported outside the stated timeframes

  • Second-hand books where the condition matches the description provided

  • Items returned without prior confirmation from us
